This sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to three days so you can have it on hand for a quick meal.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup / 60 ml hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon / 15 ml orange juice concentrate
  • 1- 1/2 teaspoons / 7.5 ml soy sauce
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons / 7.5 ml Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon / 15 ml sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon / 15 ml brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon / 2.5 ml ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon / 15 ml sweet Thai chili sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon / 3.75 ml five spice powder see note
  • 1 lb / 454 g medium or firm tofu
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 176 degrees C.
  2. Combine all ingredients except tofu in a small bowl and mix thoroughly.
  3. Place tofu in an 8x8-inch / 20x20-cm baking dish and pour sauce over.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  5. Serve hot over rice.
Recipe Notes

*Five Spice Powder is a combination of fennel, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and Szechuan peppercorns. It has a very distinctive taste. You should be able to find it in the spice section of larger supermarkets, or in Asian grocery stores.
